Carmo Terraces: Revitalising Lisbon’s Heart with Green Urban Living
Perched above the Baixa neighbourhood in Lisbon’s city centre, Carmo Terraces offers a unique vantage point, overlooking the bustling commercial street to the east and the historic Carmo Convent ruins to the west. This project reimagines the space as a vibrant, green hub that bridges the connection between tourists and locals, addressing Lisbon’s need for more urban greenery while enhancing the city's cultural and social fabric.

Each area has been design with both the locals and tourists in mind.
Creating a community space that both locals and tourists can share. The site will hold a private community garden space where locals can grow their own produce and ecosystems  within the hustle and bustle of the city, With a secluded gathering area and tool shed.
The site will also hold a community run cafe using the produce grown within the allotments. This not only appeals to locals but improves sustainability and costs within the space.
The highest point within the site will have a community gym space where locals can organise free classes.
Due to lack of green space in Lisbon, part of the site will be used to hold a thriving garden stocking both native flowers and evergreen plants that spring all year round. Giving the feel of a botanical garden above the skyline.

The cafe is not only a place for locals to enjoy but tourists too. Where visitors can come and experience the merging of communities and what can be accomplished through collaboration and pride. The cafe on the site will provide local products using the produce grown on site in the gardens below. The money made from this cafe will go back into the area, used for maintaining and providing.

The cafe is movable as to gain the sun all day long, options are shown above
